Entertainment in the Netherlands

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of the world's most fascinating tourist cities. The landscape is riddled with graceful bridges and eccentric churches and with cafes filled with locals dotted on almost every street corner. Most attractions are within the canal belt, so sightseeing is a breeze.

Amsterdam offers a diverse array of world-class entertainment, as for centuries it has been one of the leading centres of culture in Europe. All year round, every night of the week, you can find quality, English-language theatre in Amsterdam. Most of the major theatres are centred around the Leidseplein, within an easy stroll of each other. Amsterdam has over 50 cinema venues, where films are shown in their original language, with Dutch subtitles.

Amsterdam is home to some of the most famous museums in the world – the Van Gogh and the Rijks Museum. Heineken Brewery is also situated near on the periphery of the city centre.

Rotterdam

Holland's most modern city began as a fishing village in the 13th century. Today, it is a urban and cosmopolitan city with a vibrant harbour and industrial port.

For the museum lover, there are many choices in Rotterdam, ranging from maritime history to architecture and history. One of the most prominent museums in Rotterdam is Boijmans van Beuningen but also worth a visit are Kunsthal Rotterdam and the Maritime Museum

Rotterdam has an active nightlife. It’s full of clubs, night life entertainment, concerts and the like. The summer carnival – Zomercarnaval – is a Caribbean style carnival held every year in July that fills Rotterdam’s city centre with vibrant sights and sounds.

Rotterdam is a shopper’s delight. The city is divided into eight distinct shopping districts, each with their own flavour and personality. Much depends on what you’re looking for and what kind of shopping experience you want to have.

You can cruise the river with a variety of River Cruise companies. Cruises depart for destinations such as Amsterdam, Antwerp and Brussels.
